While this is not a comprehensive list, we invite you to explore the opportunities and contact the UF Career Connection Center if you need further assistance.

Internships

Governor’s Internship Program 

The Governor’s Internship Program provides a unique opportunity for Florida’s brightest students to gain valuable professional experience while helping make Florida the greatest state in the nation to live, work and play. This program is designed to provide both undergraduate and graduate students with a rare, hands-on experience in state government that will better prepare them for future careers.

Florida Gubernatorial Fellows Program 

The Florida Gubernatorial Fellows Program was created from the belief that the best way to ensure Florida’s greatness is to actively educate and cultivate its future leaders. This non-partisan program immerses students from public and private universities in key areas of state government. During their nine-month tenure in Tallahassee, Fellows receive advanced on-the-job training as well as an invaluable front-line view of the inner workings of government.

Office of the Attorney General Internships 

The Office of the Attorney General Internship is open to interested students enrolled in an accredited ABA law school or an applicable undergraduate program of study with an accredited educational institution. The program offers unpaid internship and student volunteer opportunities.

Department of Management Services Internships 

As the business arm of Florida government, the Department of Management Services (DMS) delivers quality products and services to more than 32 state government agencies as well as other state and local governmental entities, allowing all levels of government to better serve the citizens of Florida. Internship opportunities with DMS allow students to earn academic credit with accredited universities or colleges all the while gaining experience in state government. Interning is a great way to build relationships, expand skill-sets and contribute to the State of Florida.

Department of Environmental Protection Internships

DEP offers a variety of exciting and challenging internships across the state for individuals interested in pursuing careers in engineering, environmental law, environmental science and park management. Other professional, technical and administrative positions are available including fieldwork, surveying, hydrology, communications and information technology. Through our internship program, students can improve communications skills, develop teamwork skills, learn the importance of protecting the environment, and much more.  

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Internships 

The intern program at the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute provides an opportunity for college students and postgraduates to obtain hands-on experience in fish and wildlife sciences and related fields. Intern positions are unpaid, and the student is expected to contribute at least eight to 10 hours per week for at least 10 weeks.

Legislative Fellows Program 

In 1967, then Senator Lawton Chiles sponsored a bill creating an Intern Program for the Florida Legislature as a means by which young adults are introduced to the legislative process. The program’s mission is to provide college graduates pursuing a graduate degree with an opportunity to experience the legislative process and public policy making.

Florida Supreme Court Fellows Program 

The Florida Supreme Court Fellows Program is a one-semester internship in which law students work directly with a justice, central staff, the Clerk of Court, the administrative justice, or the Office of the State Courts Administrator General Counsel. Fellows conduct legal research; review and make recommendations on petitions for discretionary review, attorney discipline matters, and extraordinary writs; and prepare memoranda on pending cases. Additional duties may include assisting with draft orders or opinions and attending oral arguments and related court proceedings during the semester.

James Madison Institute

The James Madison Institute internship program operates year-round and is generally organized by college semesters. College students are given the opportunity to gain valuable experience in several fields focused on advancing public policy ideas. Interns are assigned to JMI staff members to gain hands-on experience while improving their research, analytical, and writing skills.

Appointments

Gubernatorial Appointments 

The Appointments Office supports the Governor in meeting his major obligation to appoint qualified, representative and appropriate people to a large number of important leadership roles throughout the State.

Senate President Appointments 

The President of the Senate has appointing authority for a diverse number of boards and commissions throughout the state. 

Speaker Appointments 

The Speaker of the House has appointing authority to certain statewide boards and commissions.
