Sarah Mathias

Assistant Vice President, Federal Relations


Sarah Mathias is the Assistant Vice President for Federal Government Relations and established the Washington, DC office for the University of Florida. Sarah leads the federal lobbying team and is the university’s liaison with Washington DC-based stakeholders. Sarah holds numerous leadership positions within the national higher education associations and was nationally recognized for her professional accomplishments with the Coleman Memorial Lectureship award in 2025.

Previously, Sarah worked for the University of California system-wide offices in California and Washington, DC.  While there, she served as Director and Associate Director of their federal relations program in Washington, DC and as a budget analyst in the Oakland, California headquarters. Sarah has also held positions with the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration, and the U.S. Senate.  

Sarah has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California at Los Angeles, has served on local school and community boards, and is active in the Garden Club of America. Sarah and her husband live in Washington, DC and they have two adult daughters.
